Welcome to the Mining Engineering Department Website.

Mining Engineering Department is the latest inclusion to the existing three Engineering Degree Programs in PNG Unitech. The Department offers two Degree Programs.

  • Bachelor of Engineering in Mining Engineering (BEMN)
  • Bachelor of Engineering in Mineral Process Engineering (BEMP)

The BEMN program enrolled its first intake in 1989 and BEMP in 1991 and producing its first pioneer graduates in 1993 and 1995 respectively. Currently, it is the only mining school in the South Pacific out side Australia and New Zealand. Annually, we also enroll foreign students especially from the South Pacific Island countries and also graduate them. The Department also offers post graduate programs by research (MPhil) and planning on expanding it to MSc, ME and PhD programs

The Department has grown strength to strength since inception and has been producing Mining and Mineral Process engineering graduates who are widely employed in the Mining, Petroleum, public sectors and other Earth Resources Extraction and Construction industry NOT ONLY in Papua New Guinea but across the globe. Due to the very good structure of our undergraduate syllabus, a good number of our graduates have advanced through post graduate studies a broad in top class graduate schools and have attained MSc, ME, MPhil and PhDs who are also widely employed in PNG and across the globe.

We have embarked on the international accreditation of our Degree Programs since 2015 and have made remarkable improvements since then. Accreditation is the 4 year professional engineering degree program according to Washington Accord. Since then, we have improved our main department building, laboratories, class room as well as acquiring new equipment externally from industry and internal university budget. Most of importantly, review of our syllabus is ongoing to meet the Accreditation requirement. We have also embarked on training our staff to meet the minimum required qualification (Masters) of our faculty members.

Finally continuous improvement of our program requires wider stake holders input especially from the industry, alumnae and public at large. We therefor welcome visitors, stakeholders and prospective students to the Department as you navigate through the University’s website. Details of the undergraduate programs offered by the Department can be accessed in the current Handbook. However, for further information, please revert directly to the Department or post enquiries through the University website.
