Staff and students at the PNG University of Technology will now have the opportunity to receive Chinese language courses and scholarships come 2018 through the Confucius Institute that will be set up at the university. As a result, scholarships and more funding for academic activities will be made available by the Chinese government.
This institute will be established following a memorandum of understanding that was signed between PNGUoT Vice Chancellor Dr. Albert Schram and the Chongqing Normal University President Dr. Zhou Zeyang on 9 June in Chongqing Normal University, China.
The aim of the agreement is to promote friendship of the people from both countries and to enhance development of culture and higher education.
As part of the agreement, the universities will work towards establishing the Confucius Institute at PNGUoT, send staff members and students to work or study in the partner university, carry out short term programs like summer and winter camp for students, and carry out cooperation in academic research.
Both universities will further negotiations and sign formal agreements for cooperation programs in the near future.
