PNGUOT to host career fair

Over 12 different corporate companies have confirmed their participation at the annual PNG University of Technology Career Fair to be held this Friday and Saturday. Several companies have set up interviews with final years students who are expected to graduate at the end of this year.

Chairperson of the Career Fair Organizing Committee Mrs Sandy Puy said the aim of the fair is for organizations to promote their organization’s career development programs, employment pathways and also their products and services.

The theme of the event is; “50 years of nation building in human resource through effective partnerships”, to reflect the 50 years of providing tertiary education, mostly in science and technology with endeavors to produce quality graduates that possess the skills, knowledge and attitudes desired by the employers. The University's ambition to achieve provisional international accreditation by 2019 is driving the improvement of the graduates' competences and the change of organizational culture within UNITECH.

Mrs Puy said the Career Fair is one of the central avenues for the industry and the University to exchange ideas on producing the required graduates. She said the university will be able to market its students and academic programs for possible employment, scholarships, partnerships and research collaborations.

The last career fair saw about 20 organizations from PNG and Australia participating in the recruitment drive providing instant job offers and vacation jobs for students in their final year and third year. The 13 academic departments and amalgamated colleges Bulolo Forestry College, the Timber and Forestry Training College and the Lae Unitech Nursing School will be participating along with the Polytechnic Institute and other business and industries.
