MASTER OF SCIENCE IN REMOTE SENSING AND GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM

The PNG University of Technology, Lae, through the Department of Surveying and Land Studies and the Department of Open and Distance Learning is happy to announce the admission of students for 2018 in the ‘Master of Science in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System (M.Sc in RS & GIS)’ to be offered by DISTANCE MODE.

Objective

The programme aims to create the human resources that will be adept in optimal management and development of natural resources by the state-of-the-art space technology. In a nutshell, this programme will churn out qualified professionals who, using space technology, will be instrumental in developing, managing, exploiting all sorts of natural and man-made resources in a sustainable manner in order to realize the country’s mid-term and long-term development aspirations.

The discipline aims at integrating the emerging state-of-art technologies of space-borne and air-borne data acquisition - remote sensing and digital photogrammetry, digital cartography and mapping, geographic information systems, Global Navigational Satellite System (GNSS), and information technology, thereby creating specialists in optimal resources management.

Entry Requirements

The candidate should have a Bachelor’s DEGREE in any SCIENCE OR ENGINEERING discipline from a recognised university.

Duration of the Course: Two (2) Years

Course Scheduling

The ‘Master of Science in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System (M.Sc in RS & GIS)’ programme in DISTANCE MODE shall have four semesters. The session shall start in end October’18 and end in November’20. The on-campus residential component during Nov-Dec is compulsory and must be attended by all students.

The study modules, lectures, examinations, etc. shall be conducted exclusively by the department of Surveying and Land Studies of PNGUOT. The department is in possession of all the material, space, and human resources, etc. for the proposed programme.

Important dates to remember:

  • Last date of submission of filled in application form: 10th September, 2018
  • Acceptance of candidature (intimation by email) by 12th September, 2018
  • Payment of 1st Installment: on and before 24th September, 2018
  • This year residential session will start on 29th October, 2018
