Information & Communication Technology Services (ICTS)

The Department of Information & Communication Technology Services (ICTS) manages, supports and promotes effective and efficient use of ICTS for administration, academic and other research activities. ICTS is committed to delivering quality customer service and technical solutions in the academic and administrative environment of the PNGUOT community.

The Department of Information & Communication Technology Services (ICTS) supports and promotes intelligent use of information and communications technologies (ICT) for educational and managerial effectiveness and efficiency throughout the University.

The Department's responsibilities are organized into five functional areas:

  • Networking and Communications
  • Hardware and Systems Administration
  • Systems Development
  • Systems Maintenance
  • User Support and Services

ICTS is responsible for ICT hardware and software planning, evaluation, selection, acquisition, development, implementation and maintenance. It is also in charge of managing the campus network and the internet services.

ICTS maintains central servers and computer laboratories for use by students, as well as several computer-based information systems (IS), supporting the Unitech management and administration, including the academic register and student records system, the financial IS, the human resources system, and the library system. The Department also provides general software and hardware support services for staff.

As a key resource of the University, ICTS provides strategic support for the realization of the University's corporate objectives, values, and development goals through an ITS Master Plan that establishes the framework for further development of the entire ICT infrastructure.

ICT Services Help Desk

The ICTS Help Desk is the first point of contact for all queries relating to the services provided. The desk is located at Haus Europa and provides support and assistance in;

  • Student Domain Access
  • WiFi/Internet Access
  • Usernames and passwords
  • Student Email Accounts
  • Computer lab hardware and software issues

ICTS Computer Laboratories

The University maintains a total of 11 computer labs scattered around the campus for classes/student use. Five labs have full internet access including the two labs at the female residential area. 

Operations & Maintenance Services

Operations & Maintenance Services handle the hardware problems and other needs for computer accessories. 

Biometric Turnstiles System (New Students Mess System)

The Biometry system is used to control the entry of students into the mess through the turnstiles. All students who meet the requirements are required to register their finger print at the mess during the registration week to access messing facilities.

Laptop for first year students

All first year students were issued with Dell laptops and can access internet for research and other academic activities through the Wi-Fi available in all academic buildings. The laptop comes with pre-installed Ubuntu Operating system and the students will be required to sign the laptop Policy Acceptance form.

Campus Wireless Network

ICTS department provides Wi-Fi network to students and staff. Wi-Fi coverage is available at most if not all of the Academic departments. Staff and student can also access wifi around the academic and administration areas as the university shift towards adopting a paperless policy.


         Domain Registry

The Department of Information Technology of the Papua New Guinea University of Technology is Papua New Guinea's only provider of this service. All companies and organisations wanting Papua New Guinea domain name (.pg) register domain names here.

         Electronic Service Unit

This unit is responsible for computer, television and electronic services and repairs.
