Welcome to the website of Postgraduate School at the Papua New Guinea University of Technology (PNGUoT), the nation’s highly esteemed, unique technological university. This website will provide much needed information you might require about our graduate programs, rules and regulations, admission requirements, financial aid, how and when to apply for the program of study, etc., in order to successfully complete your chosen field of study at this University.
The University was established in 1965 in Port Moresby as ThePapua New Guinea Institute of Higher Technical Education and later in 1970 it was relocated to its current location of Taraka Campus in Lae, Morobe Province, as The Papua New Guinea Institute of Technology. In August 1973, its status was upgraded to The Papua New Guinea University of Technology. Since its inception, postgraduate studies and research formed its cornerstones of excellence, for postgraduate studies and research are the vehicles for sustainable innovation. Without research, there would be no innovation and without innovation there would be no ongoing national development. The PNGUoT started its journey of postgraduate studies and research by graduating its first PhD in 1976. Since then, we have made innovation and entrepreneurship strategic priorities that have contributed towards the sustainable national development in Papua New Guinea.
To steer our PG Studies and Research programs to achieve their intended objectives and maintain quality, the Postgraduate School, headed by a Dean, was approved in 2007 and enacted in 2013.
Even though the PG School is relatively new, PNGUoT has already established its reputation in terms of postgraduate studies and research both in PNG and in the South Pacific. All the 13 academic departments have PG programs with enrolled students, from the PG Certificate up to the PhD level. Currently, PNGUoT has 21 PhD, 32 Masters, 3 PG Diploma and 2 PG Certificate Programs on offer. Two academic departments are also offering Master courses in the distance mode.
The Postgraduate School seeks cooperation of all the stakeholders and the partners, both national and international, to remain competitive and focused on its core value of achieving excellence. In collaboration of the academic Heads of Departments, the Departmental Postgraduate Coordinators, the Postgraduate Committee and the Senior Executive Management, the Postgraduate School will continue to provide leadership and vision of postgraduate education to all our current and prospective students
