Jakarta, Indonesia – Professor Macquin Maino, Head of the School of Agriculture at Papua New Guinea University of Technology, made a significant contribution to the 2024 Asia Pacific Agricultural Policy Roundtable. Held on April 26-27 at the Perbanas Institute, Jakarta, Indonesia, this prestigious forum was organized by the Global Agricultural Policy Institute and sponsored by the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation.
In an era marked by rapid economic growth and the need for post-COVID-19 recovery, the forum brought together policymakers, academics, and agricultural practitioners. Their goal: to devise real-time policy and regulatory instruments crucial for guiding agricultural-related interventions. Acknowledging the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of eradicating extreme poverty and hunger by 2030, the forum emphasized the necessity of transformative policies and programs that benefit rural communities directly.
Under the theme “Fostering Climate Resilient Agrifood Systems and Digital Agriculture toward Inclusive Rural Transformation and Sustainable Development,” the 2024 forum highlighted innovative strategies for sustainable agriculture. Professor Maino’s presentation, “Policies and Programs in Agrifood Systems and Digital Agriculture in Papua New Guinea,” provided valuable insights into the current initiatives and future directions in the region.
The School of Agriculture at Papua New Guinea University of Technology is dedicated to participating in such vital discussions, ensuring that the needs and concerns of rural communities remain a priority in the pursuit of sustainable development.
