REORGANIZATION OF PNGUoT’s ACADEMIC STRUCTURE

REORGANIZATION OF PNGUoT’s ACADEMIC STRUCTURE

The Papua New Guinea University of Technology (PNGUoT) has recently reorganized its academic structure, aligning it with the PNGUoT Strategic Plan 2020-2024 to facilitate future expansion.

As part of this restructuring, related departments have been grouped into five (5) faculties, each overseen by a Dean.

Additionally, the Postgraduate School has been renamed the Faculty of Postgraduate Studies, Research, and Innovation. The departments have been renamed as Schools, each led by a Head of School (HoS).

This restructuring, officially approved by the Council during its 200th meeting held on the 20th of November, 2023, has been in effect since January 2024.

The Heads of Schools will now report to the Dean. In the absence of an appointed Dean, the Heads of Schools within the faculties will continue to report directly to the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Academic, rather than the Vice-Chancellor, until a Dean is appointed.

As per the organizational changes, the following are the faculties comprised of various schools:

  1. Faculty of Engineering: School of Civil Engineering; School of Electrical and Communication Engineering; School of Mechanical Engineering; School of Mining Engineering
  2. Faculty of Sciences: School of Applied Physics; School of Applied Sciences; School of Mathematics and Computer Science
  3. Faculty of Natural Resources: School of Agriculture; School of Forestry
  4. Faculty of Humanities: School of Business Studies; School of Communication and Development Studies
  5. Faculty of Built Environment: School of Architecture and Construction Management; School of Surveying and Land Studies
  6. Faculty of Postgraduate Studies, Research, and Innovation

All 13 schools will report to the Faculty of Postgraduate Studies, Research, and Innovation for postgraduate studies, research, and innovation matters.

The Faculty Dean is tasked with offering strategic guidance, leading academic planning, and overseeing administration to ensure excellence in teaching and research.

The Head of School (HoS) manages academic operations, supports faculty and staff, collaborates closely with other HoS within the faculty, and oversees community outreach programs.
