Welcome to Applied Physics Department, the Papua New Guinea University of Technology, one of the 13 academic departments in the PNG University of Technology. The department currently offers two courses and service other academic departments by providing a service course in Physics. The department is currently offering two programs, Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics with Electronics & Instrumentation (BSAP), which is a flagship of the department and Bachelor of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering (BEBE) degree program. Both programs have a duration of four years with four subjects per semester. The Applied Physics with Electronics and Instrumentation is a four-year degree course entitled “Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics with Electronics and Instrumentation is offered to suitably qualified students. It is designed to produce graduates with technical skills in electronics and instrumentation together with a good understanding of the underlying physics principles. All subjects are elective, thereby enabling the student to put together a suite of subjects best suited to his or her abilities and interests. A wide-range survey of employers revealed an immediate need for personnel with technical skills in electronics and instrumentation together with a sufficient grasp of underlying physical principles to recommend improvements in products and processes. Applied Physics graduates are in great demand as they continue to take up take up technical and management-track positions in the manufacturing industry, communication, state entities such as Air Niugini, PNG Telekom, PNG Power, LNG, Mining Companies, universities, colleges and education sector, National Health Department, NISIT, Banking Industry, Disciplinary forces, Renewable Energy and Climate Change and many more. This will continue for years to come as the industry have come to recognize how valuable an assert an Applied Physics Graduate can add value to their organization.

The Biomedical Engineering course is designed to produce graduates with technical skills in electronics and instrumentation together with a good understanding of the underlying physics principles with application in biomedical engineering. The employment prospect is the National Department of Health and private health services providing medical health services to the population of our country. We are anticipating some more new courses to be introduced in two to three years’ time and is looking forward to the challenges our nation throws at us for solutions to the nation’s problems.

The Department is very strong in staffing level with highly qualified lecturers and professors both international and nationals. The Department recently recruited heavily with most staff members very young all with Bachelors and Masters Degrees and is in a better position going forward in 5 to 10 years’ time. We are offering Post Graduate courses in Master of Science in Applied Physics with Electronics and Instrumentation, Master of Philosophy in Applied Physics, Master of Technology in Exploration Geophysics and PhD by Research.

We welcome you on board and wishing you all the best in your future portfolios and looking forward to have you as our student if your interest lies in the above advancing technology space and related. For our past graduates we thank you for being our testimony to the industry and looking forward to hear from your success story.
