Establishment

The CoEER was established in 1993 by the PNGUoT Council to conduct multi-disciplinary researches on the broad environment, drawing from the pool of expertise University-wide.

Our dream is broad and practical. We are conducting research in a range of areas in the natural and built environment to address pressing issues while developing programs that give priority to biodiversity conservation and management for environmental sustainability and improved rural livelihood.

Our Vision & Mission

Vision

We are addressing critical issues affecting the general environment locally and contributing to regional and global agendas - climate change, food and nutritional insecurity, healthy living, and natural resources depletion.

Mission

The CoEER brings together leaders, practitioners, academics and students from the faculty of natural resources, engineering, built environment, sciences and humanities within the University to address critical issues and provide solutions.

Milestones

Our vision to become a leading regional multidisciplinary research and development hub for development has promoted and facilitated multidisciplinary problem-based researches that are significant to environmental and climate science, technology and innovation. We have strategized our goals to: (i) Conduct technology driven innovative research that would lead to broader community publicity and rural livelihood, (ii) Mentor and inspire students to be equipped with advanced knowledge and skills in environmental and climate sciences and allied fields, (iii) Provide scientific and technological advisory services to the government and stakeholders, and (iv) Promote innovative, entrepreneurial, and solution-driven research that would lead to product development.

Research focus

We are interested in wide areas of research interest: (a) Environmental and climate sciences, (b) Rehabilitation and management strategies for contaminated surface environments, (c) Public policy and awareness initiatives, (d) Sustainability in natural resources (soil, water, plants, microbes) and the built environment (agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and civic infrastructure), and (e) Biodiversity conservation and management.
