The thirteen graduates (13) of PNG University of Technology’s (PNGUoT) Simbu Unitech Satellite University (SUSU) were encouraged to use their technical skills to play their parts in transforming the country’s economy.

Guest speaker and Simbu Provincial Education Advisor (PEA), Mrs. Kutna Bepwick elaborated on the theme ‘Empowered Technocrats Driving Transformation and National Economic Growth’ saying technocratic culture must be embraced to transform society.

“You are individuals with special technical skills that would be needed to solve our problems in our country or in our society.”

She defined technocrats to the graduates as individuals with technical training who will solve many societal problems, and highlighted an important term called ‘technocracy’ – a form of governance whereby key decision makers are selected for their special technical skills.

“You have possessed the skills that will be needed to implement their plans or make their plans come into reality,” said Mrs. Bepwick.

“The special technical skills and knowledge you receive will enable you, and empower you to make a difference in your country.”

Mrs. Bepwick complimented them for their commitment, dedication and perseverance for making it this far and not giving up on their education journey.

“You are now an empowered technocrat because you are very important people who have just graduated with very special skills which can be used to change our country,” said Mrs. Bepwick.

“On behalf of the people of Chimbu, the Provincial Government, Provincial Administration, SUSU, and the Division of Education, I would like to congratulate you all and thank Professor Kaul Gena and Mrs. Veronica Thomas for keeping SUSU and its program running for the past years.”

“To the graduates, go and serve our people, our society and our country well with your special skills,” Mrs. Bepwick concluded.
