Graduating with a Diploma in Forestry during the Bulolo University College (BUC) 2nd Graduation ceremony in Bulolo, Morobe Province, on 2nd May, 2025, was Junior Sapi,  the recipient of the Leadership Award.

During his speech as the recipient of the award at the graduation ceremony, Sapi expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the PNGUoT management, distinguished guests, and the administration and academic staff of BUC.

“To be recognized by BUC is both such an honor and a humbling experience, and I’m so grateful to receive this Leadership Award. Standing before you, I am overwhelmed with a sense of pride in what we have accomplished and deep gratitude for those who have guided us along our journey leading up to this day.”

Sapi said that his motivation and driving force that pushed him to take on leadership roles during his time in BUC was his identity as a young person and a Christian.

He further went on to say that he had seen so many young people involved in many bad things, and for him to be a leader is to show them the right way by being a good example and a positive role model by doing the right things himself, so that they can follow.

Being a student leader during his time at BUC, Sapi recalled the many challenges he faced from his colleagues when it came to leadership amongst themselves.

“Normally, we used to have competition between leadership, and sometimes, they would disagree about your decisions, and it would cause a rebellion.”

Sapi said that despite that, they try to put their differences aside and work collaboratively to lead and be the voice of the student body at BUC.

Moving forward, Sapi plans to continue using his leadership skills to mentor young people, organize community activities, and promote spiritual growth and positive behavior.

“My leadership journey has just begun, and I am committed to making a difference wherever God places me,” he said, and encouraged his peers to never stop chasing their dreams and to be the change they would want to see.
