Technical Officer - Instrumentation Technician

The Papua New Guinea University of Technology is seeking a Technical Officer – Instrumentation Technician to join our School of Mechanical Engineering. This is a permanent position with an excellent opportunity to contribute to academic and research excellence. The role involves laboratory management, equipment maintenance, and providing technical support for research and student projects.

Primary Responsibilities

The Technical Officer – Instrumentation Technician is responsible for maintaining, managing, and modernizing the Mechanical Engineering laboratories. The role involves managing laboratory resources, conducting preventive maintenance, repairing equipment, and supporting academic staff with research and student projects. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, experience in equipment troubleshooting, and a commitment to maintaining safety and efficiency in laboratory operations.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Maintain, manage, and modernize mechanical engineering laboratories.
    • Conduct preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment and instruments.
    • Perform repairs and ensure optimal functioning of laboratory tools and instruments.
    • Enforce safety protocols in compliance with OHE and state safety regulations.
    • Assist academic staff with laboratory research, student projects, and technical report preparation.
    • Provide technical support for laboratory classes when necessary.
    • Participate in cross-functional teams and manage resources effectively.
    • Maintain a safe, organized, and professional laboratory environment.
    • Perform additional duties as delegated by the Laboratory Manager.

Qualification & Experience

  • Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Proficient in handling workshop machines and tools.
  • Competent in using CAD software.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Strong ability to manage people and resources effectively.
  • Ability to set goals and provide constructive feedback

Conditions of Service

  • Technical Officer I/II PGK26,709 – PGK38,241 per annum
  • Domestic Market Allowance – PGK1,200

(Level of appointment depends upon qualification and experience)
