Technical Officer - Refrigeration Mechanic
The Papua New Guinea University of Technology is seeking a skilled and experienced Technical Officer (Refrigeration Mechanic) to join our School of Mechanical Engineering.
Primary Responsibilities
The Technical Officer (Refrigeration Mechanic) is responsible for maintaining, managing, and modernizing refrigeration, air conditioning, and heat exchanger equipment in the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory. The role includes equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, resource management, and enforcing safety regulations. Additionally, the Technical Officer will support academic staff and students in laboratory activities, research projects, and practical demonstrations. The ideal candidate should have strong mechanical and electrical skills, leadership abilities, and excellent problem-solving capabilities.
- Oversee refrigeration, air conditioning, and heat exchanger equipment in the mechanical engineering laboratory.
- Maintain, repair, and modernize laboratory equipment and tools.
- Conduct preventive maintenance inspections and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
- Assist academic staff with laboratory activities, research projects, and student projects.
- Manage laboratory resources, planning, and project management tools.
- Enforce safety regulations and maintain a safe working environment.
- Support additional mechanical engineering areas, including fluid mechanics, internal combustion engines, material science, and theory of machines.
Qualification & Experience
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a Polytechnic Certificate/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
- Proficiency in handling and maintaining workshop machines and tools.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage people and projects.
- Knowledge of electrical work is an advantage.
- Excellent computer skills and the ability to generate technical reports.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to engage at various levels.
Conditions of Service
- Technical Officer I/II – PGK26,709 – PGK38,241 per annum
- Domestic Market Allowance – PGK1,200
(Level of appointment depends upon qualification and experience)
