Unitech to host Chinese Confucius Institute

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”5687″ img_size=”full”][vc_column_text]The Papua New Guinea University of Technology will now host the first Confucius Institute teach Chinese language and cultural studies to University staff, students, staff dependents and the general public. The Executive Board of the PNG University of Technology held its first Annual General Meeting on the implementation of PNG’s first Confucius Institute last week.

The Vice Chancellor, Dr Ora Renagi welcomed the new director for the Institute Dr Zhang Xian and the university looks forward to working with the Chinese Government while hosting the Confucius Institute. Dr Renagi said the establishment of the Institute will be a mutually benefitting arrangement between the University and the China Government which will pave way for Papua New Guineans to learn the Chinese language and scholarship opportunities for further studies in China.

Other two Universities, the University of Papua New Guinea and the University of Goroka will act as classrooms for the institute while Unitech will be the coordinating center for studies. On the occasion of the meeting, the Vice- Chancellor, Dr. Ora Renagi received a congratulatory message from Ambassador Xue Bing of the Chinese Embassy in PNG. His Excellency said: “The opening of Unitech’s Confucius Institute reflects the desire of both Papua New Guineans and Chinese to foster closer friendly exchanges through Chinese learning and cultural exchanges at the grass-root level”.

In addition, he sincerely hopes the institute will play a dominant role in introducing Chinese culture to the country, promotion of positive news on the interaction between the two peoples, and strengthening the bridge of friendship for future generations” Finally, he expressed his heartfelt thanks and sincere greetings to all the campus leaders and staff who supported the establishment of the Institutes at Unitech.

Chongqing Normal University, is the main partner for this program, also sent a congratulatory message saying: “Confucius Institute at Unitech will certainly make a strong foundation of quick access for Papua New Guinean to learn the Chinese language, experience the Chinese culture, and promoting people-to-people exchanges between PNG and China!” The school board was presided over by the VC, Pro VC of Administration, Deputy VC, Director of Public and International relations, The Bursar, Director of ICT, PNG Side Dean: David Chen, and The Chinese Side Dean: Zhang Xian[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]
