The National Science and Technology Conference is an important Asia Pacific platform that allows practicing scientist, researchers, students, would-be researchers, research leaders, research administrator and policy makers to gather, inform, exchange information and experiences, and explore opportunities in the different discipline areas of scientific work taking place in the country.

The event is Papua New Guinea Science and Technology Council Secretariat’s initiative with support from the Department of National Planning and Monitoring, host institution and industry to bring researchers, students, leaders and policy makers from different institutions, researcher discipline areas, and government and industry partner to hold discussions and present their research finding.

Discussion theme, sub-theme and mini-themes are centered on issues, challenges, opportunities affecting national and regional development and the way forward. The discussion and results of presentations do not stop at the conference, but do find their way through Science and Technology Council, Government as well as Non-Government Organizations/individual participants and often provide useful insights to debate and directions and articulation of policy interventions by the government.
