7th National Science and Technology Conference

The National Science and Technology Conference is an important Asia Pacific platform that allows practicing scientist, researchers, students, would-be researchers, research leaders, research administrator and policy makers to gather, inform, exchange information and experiences, and explore opportunities in the different discipline areas of scientific work taking place in the country. The event is Papua New Guinea Science and Technology Council Secretariat’s initiative with support from the Department of National Planning and Monitoring, host institution and industry to bring researchers, students, leaders and policy makers from different institutions, researcher discipline areas, and government and industry partner to hold discussions and present their research finding. Discussion theme, sub-theme and mini-themes are centered on issues, challenges, opportunities affecting national and regional development and the way forward. The discussion and results of presentations do not stop at the conference, but do find their way through Science and Technology Council, Government as well as Non-Government Organizations/individual participants and often provide useful insights to debate and directions and articulation of policy interventions by the government. The papers presented at the conference are published in the Annual Research Science and Technology Conference Proceedings. The wide coverage and circulation provide useful reference points to those seeking research opportunities. Additional Information About The Conference and the Host-2024 – PNG University of Technology, Lae, Morobe Province, PNG The 2024 National Science and Technology Conference is hosted by the Papua New Guinea University of Technology (PNGUoT). The PNGUoT with its combined institutional experience and expertise stand ready to host this major event, and we hope to hear a lot of speakers speaking on broad range of topics from issues in the food security and agriculture, to climate change and biodiversity, to engineering and technology. In addition to scientific research discussions, we hope to discuss way forward on the matters concerning award and encourage the awarding of grants for research, trainings, scholarships, prizes, pilot applications, visits, special initiatives for women, conferences, exchanges, exhibitions and displays. In addition, directories of personnel, work in progress, publications and other forms of information dissemination are anticipated. This conference was shelved for a while due to the pandemic. We therefore expect increased number of participation in 2024 as many countries, universities, science and technology establishments have increased their activities to pre-pandemic levels. We also look forward to participation and presentation by private industries, researchers, student poster presentations and scientific research work.
