Member for Bulolo, Honorable Sam Basil Junior committed K50,000 to the Papua New Guinea University of Technology’s Bulolo University Campus (BUC) as part of the five – year development plan for Bulolo District, Morobe Province.

He made this announcement during the Bulolo University Campus’ graduation this month.

Mr Basil clarified that K20,000 will be allocated for the establishment of the Bulolo scholarship scheme for the BUC campus, while K30,000 will be used to improve students’ amenities on campus.

Mr Basil said he was excited and proud to see BUC campus hosting its first own graduation in the district.

“This graduation will bring confidence to the parents who wish to send their children to study in Bulolo. There’s a lot to be done in BUC and the education infrastructure in Bulolo is always my priority within the five-year development strategic plan. This will benefit those students who wish to stay at the BUC campus to further their studies”.

The Forestry College in Bulolo commenced training in 1962, following the formal policy approval in 1951 of forestry training in Papua New Guinea. The college initially offered short courses for officers who had already undertaken field training.

In 1963, two-year courses were offered, leading to a Higher Certificate in Forestry. In 1967 a three-year course with an award of a Diploma in Forestry was introduced. In 1994, the Forestry College was amalgamated with the Papua New Guinea University of Technology.

The Forestry College graduations have always been hosted with PNGUoT’s main campus, and staging this first graduation on site was seen as a milestone.

BUC Principal, Eko Maiguo acknowledged the Member for Bulolo for the financial support saying it will assist the college in its plans going forward.
