CPA-UNITECH to partner in accrediting Business Studies courses

Certified Practising Accountants Papua New Guinea has raised its hands to partner with the PNG University of Technology’s Business Studies department to work towards a full accreditation of its business studies courses.

The involvement of CPA PNG follows a meeting between the University’s Vice Chancellor Dr. Ora Renagi and prominent Unitech Alumni and Chairman of the Engineering Industry Advisory Board, Mr. Luke Liria, President of the Certified Practising Accountants (CPA), Mr. Richard Kuna, and CPA CEO, Mr Yuwak Tau in Port Moresby recently.

As part of the strategy to accredit the Business Studies courses, a Working Board will be set up to guide the progress towards full accreditation.

Dr. Renagi said the Working Board will be responsible to set the agenda of the Accreditation Process and CPA PNG will provide an Assessor who will assess the current program and make recommendations that will be used to form the basis of the accreditation program work-plan.

Dr. Ora Renagi said the University’s aim is to meet international and industry standards and accrediting its programs is the way forward.

“The Engineering School is already in the process of undergoing full accreditation, the Business Studies department will be the second school to have its programs undergo full accreditation with the guidance and direction of CPA PNG.” he said.

“CPA PNG has its own accreditation process that will be followed and with the recommendations by the Assessor on the accreditation program work-plan, our business studies courses will soon begin the accreditation process,” Dr. Renagi added.

The desire to accredit this program started two to three years ago but we couldn’t find the right people to work with, now that CPA PNG has come on board to take lead, the preparations for the accreditation process will begin this year.

The initiative to partner and accredit the business courses was led by Mr. Liria who was very instrumental in the accreditation of the engineering programs and with CPA PNG’s guidance and support from key individuals from the Accounting Firms and Business Community, they will work with the Business Studies Department to establish the accreditation process.
