Vice Chancellor’s Industry Breakfast Paving Way For Greater Opportunities

Vice Chancellor Industry Breakfast

Industry partners and stakeholders continue to
play a major role in shaping pathways for students at the Papua New Guinea University of Technology.
This was iterated by the Vice Chancellor of the university,
Dr. Ora Renagi, during the Vice Chancellor’s Industry Breakfast at the university’s Council Room. recently..
The Vice Chancellor’s Industry Breakfast is a monthly scheduled breakfast meeting with some of the leading industry partners in the country as well as government institutions to have a dialogue with the Vice Chancellor and heads of respective departments in the university.
This venue is an opportunity for the heads of departments to discuss with industrial partners so that the university can align itself in terms of making sure students are work ready when they go out to do their industrial training.
Most of the industry partners shared same sentiments about some of the challenges observed. They added that most students applying for temporary job training or permanent employment most of the time lacked confidence and have very minimal communication skills.
In other instances, some of the university students who graduated on merit, didn’t make it though some of the vacancy shortlisted recruitment interviews because they lacked basic interview skills.

Meanwhile, Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr. Karl Gena, said this would mean the teaching mode of students in lectures would have to be updated to accommodate such important skills such as communications and ethics to help students gain the confidence needed to adopt to the working environment.
